About the Opportunity

The University of Southern Denmark (SDU), Department of Green Technology, invites applications for a fully funded PhD position within the MSCA Doctoral Network QuiVal – Quantum Inspired Valuation of Circular Real Estate. This prestigious European-funded network aims to redefine how real estate value is calculated by integrating circularity, sustainability, and quantum-inspired methodologies.

This PhD project focuses on multi-level material cycles and market dynamics, investigating how building materials circulate across production, use, end-of-life, and reuse stages — and how market behavior influences their value.

Project Scope & Objectives

The research addresses the QuiVal objective: “Value of the building that is mobile.” The PhD will explore:

  • The dynamics of building materials such as steel, copper, timber, and aggregates.

  • How material cycles in multiple sectors (construction, transport, manufacturing) affect supply, demand, and market valuation.

  • Development of a holistic assessment framework to evaluate the most feasible and sustainable recovery pathways for major building materials.

  • Integration of quantum-inspired concepts for a probabilistic understanding of interconnected material markets.

  • Production of academic papers, a dissertation, and an industry report for practitioners.

The PhD student will engage in a rich network of 13 researchers, 8 universities, and 14 industry partners across Europe, participating in workshops, summer schools, and two research secondments:

  • Circue (Industry)

  • University of the West England (Academic Partner)
